The gear tooth working surface of sprocket rim should not only bear the bending compressive stress under the reaction of the track pin sleeve, but also bear the abrasive and wear existing before the gear tooth and the track pin sleeve. After the pitch circle of the tooth surface is worn, if the machine continues to walk, there will be tooth skipping and impact wear. Therefore, the sprocket rim should be made of materials with high harden-ability and low thermal sensitivity, so as to improve its service life. During the heat treatment of teeth, medium frequency quenching and low temperature tempering shall be used, and the sprocket surface hardness shall be 52-56HRC. The sprocket rim is divided into three forms: integral casting, separate casting of gear ring and hub, and segmented manufacturing. The latter two forms are usually fixed with bolts, which is more convenient to repair after wear.
The engagement between the sprocket rim and the track is divided into normal engagement and special engagement. In normal engagement, the pitch of the track is equal to that of the drive wheel. In this way, several pitch pins can mesh with the teeth at the same time, and the force is relatively uniform. However, after working for a period of time, the pitch of the track will be larger than that of the sprocket rim due to wear, resulting in poor engagement.
In special engagement, the track pitch is 1%-5% smaller than the drive wheel pitch. At this time, only the front tooth is engaged with a pitch pin that is about to come out of engagement, and other pitch pins are not in contact with each tooth. The advantage of special engagement is that when the track increases the pitch due to wear, it can become normal engagement.
